30 Beers in 30 Days 30 Beers in 20 Days
When Justin and I would pick up our CSA veggies in Schiller Park after work on Wednesdays throughout the summer, there was an hour long gap between work and the time our veggies got dropped off. Meaning there was the perfect amount of time for us to drink a couple half-price microbrews at a cool local bar with all vegan food. Enter Hal & Al’s: http://www.halandals.com/ . We started doing this with such frequency that the bartender knew our names and told us we should take the 30 (different) beers in 30 days challenge to get a shirt and have our photo on the wall. We were under the influence of a few local IPA’s on 8/9/11, so we said “sure!” - failing to really think about the fact that we were going to be in Costa Rica for ten of the next 30 days. Upon our return, we had to drain our wallets and saturate our livers at double speed, but it all culminated in this worthwhile being taken of our 30th beer being drunk.
Useful knowledge: Over the course of the 30 beers, some of my favorites included:
Cincinnati Rivertown Porter
O’Fallon’s Pumpkin Beer
Goose Island Matilda
Founder’s Centennial IPA
I did not care for the Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, but J liked it. His favorite was the Elevator Dark Horse Lager and he also liked Akron’s Thirsty Dog Barktoberfest. Neither of us were in love with Weasel Boy’s Paw Paw or 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon. Luckily, they have 120 beers to choose from, and we can try 30 more for round two: 60 Beers in 60 Days. Hopefully, I won’t sign up for the GRE or take a long vacation that month.
